Signs of Imminent Heater Repair

Furnaces are not magic. They consume the fuel or energy that gets delivered to your house via a pipeline, wiring system, or delivery, and produce heat. While we often forget about this process, thanks to the quiet and productive nature of these systems, sometimes we can be blinded into thinking that everything is running smoothly when it’s not. If you’re looking to avoid furnace repair in Cherry Hill, NJ then you’re going to have to be more vigilant than that.

That’s where we come in! We’re your neighborhood professionals when it c omes to anything to do with your heater. As the folks who are usually contacted when problems occur, we can give you a few signals that you might notice when your heater is having a rough time.

If any of the signs we’ve mentioned below sound familiar, make sure to contact us right away!

Addressing Furnace Issues

Gas furnaces are extremely common in our area. As a result, the combustion process is taking place in many homes in our neighborhoods, so it’s of the utmost importance that furnaces are paid close attention to. Anything wrong with a gas furnace could eventually cause something serious like a gas leak or the release of carbon monoxide. If the safety of your home and your family is as important to you as it is to us, you’ll want to pay close attention to your furnace and address any problems immediately.

  • Abnormal Smells. When you first turn your furnace on for the season, there might be a slight burning smell. The system might be burning the dust and debris that’s collected throughout the year, which is fine. However, if your system constantly has an odor that is unpleasant (or even pleasant), then contact a professional as soon as possible. This could be a gas leak.
  • Difficulty Starting. Furnaces are not lawnmowers. You should not have to pull the cord seven times in order to turn your heater on. If you’re finding yourself turning your heater on over and over again because it just won’t stay on—that’s a serious issue that should be repaired immediately. There could be a wiring or electrical problem somewhere in your furnace.
  • Discolored Pilot Light. If you’re the owner of a gas furnace, then you’ll recognize the little blue light in your furnace that stays on even when the system isn’t producing heat. However, if that pilot light is yellow or any other color that you notice, this could be a ventilation problem. Yellow pilot lights signal that there’s carbon monoxide in the wrong chamber.
  • Poor Air Quality. Did you know that your furnace has a filter? This filter should be changed out fairly regularly (every 1-3 months). If the air filter isn’t changed or replaced, then your system could have trouble pulling in the fresh air. Also, this air filter makes sure that your system isn’t expelling dust or debris throughout your home. So if you notice a poor air quality in your home, something is absolutely wrong.

We’ll assume that some of these points sound a little familiar to a few of you out there. Get yourself an early holiday gift this year and repair your furnace!
