Geothermal Heating & Cooling in Camden County & South Jersey

Most homes in Camden County, NJ are accustomed to traditional forms of heating and cooling: furnaces, boilers, centralized air conditioners and even heat pumps. But they’re not the only systems out there, and if you expand your options, you may be surprised at the results. Take, for example, geothermal heating and cooling systems, which draw upon the ambient heat beneath the ground to warm and cool your home.

At Ambient Comfort LLC, we know how to install, repair and maintain geothermal systems for your home. The benefits they provide can change your way of life, and with us on hand to help, you can set up your new system without fear or concern. We’ll also be there in the rare event your system needs repairs, and can keep it maintained so that the risks of a problem developing are minimized. If your heating and cooling bills are getting too high and you want another option to help keep your home cool, look into the geothermal options we can provide.

Geothermal Heating Uses the Power of the Earth

If you dig down below the ground past about 10 feet or so, the temperature of the Earth never changes, no matter how hot or cold it is above ground. That constant temperature forms the basis of geothermal heating and cooling. The system runs a series of tubes and coils below the earth, then pumps a mixture of water and antifreeze through it. The mixture facilitates a heat exchange with the earth: pulling heat out of it to warm your home, and releasing heat into it to cool your home. Considering the temperature extremes of Camden County, with hot summer and cold winters, it’s not hard to see how such a system can be beneficial.

Installation usually involves the use of digging equipment, and time, which makes it more costly than other types of HVAC systems. Trenches or pits are dug in the ground, going down at least 10 or 15 feet, then covered over once the tubes are installed. (In some cases, the tubes can be placed at the bottom of a pond on your property, or vertically down a deeper pit, rather than horizontally.) They’re attached to a pump installed above ground in your home, moving the liquid and bringing warm or cool temperatures with it. A blower then moves the air into your duct system with a fan.

How Does Geothermal Heating and Cooling Benefit Me?

Once installed, geothermal systems rarely suffer from huge problems, since they’re buried beneath the earth and protected from wear and tear. When problems do arise, they tend to be minor and limited to above–ground components like the pumps and fan motors. We can provide repairs for those components, and keep it maintained to stop such breakdowns from happening in the first place. More importantly, because you aren’t using fuel to create energy — merely pulling it from the infinitely renewable thermal energy stored in the ground — the cost of running it can be extremely low. You need just a little electricity to run the pump and fan, saving you a hug amount of money in monthly costs.
